KUALA LUMPUR – An LRT coach that stalled at the KL Sentral station yesterday caused massive delays and human backlogs as hundreds were stranded at several stations in the Klang Valley along the rail network’s Kelana Jaya route.

Updates posted on the RapidKL customer service support’s Twitter account said shuttle trains ferrying stranded passengers from the Bangsar station to Pasar Seni station had initially been activated following the malfunction.

It noted that trains coming from Putra Heights into the city would turn back at the Bangsar station, while coaches from Gombak would also turn back at the Pasar Seni station.

“Customers are advised to seek alternative transport to reach their destinations. We apologise for the inconvenience,” read an update posted in the early evening.

Later on, shuttle buses were also deployed by the company to ferry would-be passengers from the Bangsar station to the KL Sentral and Pasar Seni stations.

Just before 7pm, an update was posted notifying of the resumption of services.

“We are regulating the service at normal speed and frequency will be restored in a few minutes. Thank you for your patience and we apologise for the inconvenience caused,” read the tweet.

When contacted, a spokesman from RapidKL’s parent company Prasarana Malaysia Bhd said a press conference will be held this morning to explain the incident.

Earlier, Twitter user @bellasznasyaz uploaded two pictures of massive lines at the KLCC LRT station with hundreds of people seen waiting to enter the train platform.

“I heard there was an LRT (train) that broke down in KL Sentral,” read the tweet.

Another user @sanahabdullah posted a photo of what appeared to be the view from inside one of the stalled coaches, which happened to stop opposite the Merdeka 118 skyscraper. – The Vibes, May 21, 2022
