KUALA LUMPUR – While Ampang MP Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin announced her departure from Bersatu this morning, another politician from the opposite side of the political divide has made a similar move.
In a press conference this afternoon, Pontian MCA chief Datuk Tee Siew Kiong announced his immediate departure from the Chinese-based party.
Tee, 58, said his action to call it quits “fulfils the party president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong’s greatest and last wish”.
“My intention is to offer advice from time to time. I prefer to speak the truth even though it’s harsh, but unfortunately the president does not allow opinions in the party,” he said.
“Therefore, after careful consideration, I will not appeal against my five-year suspension.
“To prevent the party from being in a chaotic state, I am officially quitting MCA, effective immediately.”
Previously, it was reported that the suspension was issued after Tee criticised the party’s leadership and made a statement via Facebook Live on February 25 and April 21.
Tee described the punishment as “unreasonable” as others who had committed similar offences were only suspended for up to three years.
He also claimed that the lengthy suspension given to him was an order by Wee.
Tee also “advised” his now ex-party boss to not bring the “bad party culture” to the Transport Ministry.
“He should have a discussion with e-hailing operators and not punish those who are not like-minded.”
On his political future, the former Johor Tourism, Trade and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman said he leaves it to God.
“If there’s a chance or it is fated by God, and if I’m still able to contribute to society, I will continue the (political) journey.
“Even though I’m no longer an MCA member, I still hope that the party achieves greater success and continues to contribute to the Chinese community and the country.” – The Vibes, May 26, 2022
