KOTA KINABALU – Covid-19 infections in Sabah have breached its three-digit mark today, with 115 new cases, after reporting two-digit cases daily over the past three months.
State spokesman for the pandemic Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the number went up by another 16 cases from yesterday which stood at 99 fresh infections.
More districts have also reported rising numbers over the past 24 hours.
“Putatan jumped from zero to 12 cases but Kota Kinabalu and Penampang were down by 11 and seven cases respectively. 12 districts recorded zero cases so far,” he said via his Twitter account today.
Other districts reporting an increase in cases were Beaufort with two cases, Sandakan with 12 cases and Papar with six new cases – while Keningau, Tuaran, Sipitang, and Beluran reported one case each today.
A total of 112 of the 115 cases are category 1 and 2 cases.
Sabah reported its lowest cases on May 3 with only 12 confirmed Covid-19 cases after peaking at an all-time high on February 21 at 4,770 cases.
Masidi did not confirm the reasons behind the spike but Sabah has recently observed the Hari Raya and Hari Kaamatan Festival between March and May, which could be contributing factors. – The Vibes, June 17, 2022
