SIBU – The body of a man who reportedly fell into a river in Ulu Naha, Bakun Hydroelectric Dam, Belaga, about 464km from here, on Tuesday, was found about 9.40pm yesterday.

A Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre spokesman said the villagers identified the man as Heli Nyalong, 36, from Block P, Uma Bakah, Sg Asap Belaga resettlement scheme who was reported missing since Tuesday after falling into the dam lake.

“At 11.30pm yesterday, the operation centre received a call from the fire operations commander at the location informing that the victim’s body was found at 9.40pm by the villagers, 5m from the location where the victim reportedly fell,” he said in a statement today.

He said the victim’s body was then taken to a nearby longhouse, while waiting to be taken to the Nyabau Hospital, Bintulu today for a post-mortem before being handed back to his family for burial.

According to him, the Belaga Fire and Rescue Station received a call about the incident at 3.15pm on Tuesday and then the team travelled by boat, for four hours, to the scene. – Bernama, June 23, 2022
