KUALA LUMPUR – The Ampang PKR branch will hold a re-election next week after its newly minted division chief, Daing Muhammad Reduan Bachok was found to have engaged in vote-buying.

In a letter sighted by The Malaysian Insight, addressed to Daing from PKR election committee chairman Dr Zaliha Mustafa, he was informed that his win was revoked following investigations into apparent money politics during the campaigning period.

“The committee upholds the findings of the panel that you should be deprived of your candidacy for the post of branch head,” Dr Zaliha wrote.

Similarly, Dr Zaliha had sent a notice to Ampang PKR branch members informing them that the re-election will be held on June 29, from 12pm to 8pm at the Datuk Ahmad Razali Hall, Kg Baru Ampang.

She also stressed that Daing will not be able to stand again as a candidate in the re-election with the decision being final.

During the party polls, Daing went up against local celebrities Datuk Hans Isaac and Altimet.

According to the initial results, Daing raked in the most votes at 942, followed by Isaac with 609.

Altimet, whose real name is Syed Ahmad Abdul Rahman, came in third position with 589 votes.

Four other contenders – Abdul Halim Mohamed Yusof, Sam Hoo Wai, Abdullah Md Zain and Abdul Latif Shaari – had managed to garner only 272, 138, 110 and 17 votes respectively.

Daing, 37, courted controversy in 2018 after he was charged with insulting the modesty of PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli at a community centre in Kg Merampong in Keningau, Sabah.

However, the Kota Kinabalu sessions court acquitted him last November after the judge ruled that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against him. – The Vibes, June 25, 2022
