KUALA LUMPUR – Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa will organise a briefing session for Umno Youth on the implementation of the national 5G project by Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) this Friday (July 1).

Annuar said he had asked the Finance Ministry (MoF), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, and DNB to provide a briefing on the project implementation at Angkasapuri at 10am.

“As this event and explanation are crucial to give young people and party leaders the latest explanations and information, I will also extend this invitation to several leaders of the Umno Wanita and Puteri movements.

“I hope that via this briefing session, all questions raised can be explained in detail by the agencies involved,” he said in a statement today.

The statement was issued following a memorandum submitted by Umno Youth on June 21 to Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin regarding DNB’s implementation of 5G.

Umno Youth exco member Fairuz Jamaludin, who is also the Umno Youth executive committee chairman, handed over a memorandum which among others called for a thorough investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission on matters relating to the implementation of the 5G project.

Annuar said he had extended a copy of the memorandum to MoF as most of the matters raised in the memorandum are not under the Communications and Multimedia Ministry’s jurisdiction.

Commenting further, Annuar said that based on a check conducted on the matters raised in the memorandum, it was found that several inaccurate and out-of-date pieces of information reached Umno Youth.

“I would like to thank Umno Youth for conveying their views. I think that as young leaders, they have the right to get more in-depth, accurate and up-to-date information on the implementation of 5G directly from the horse’s mouth or from the parties involved directly in 5G implementation,” he said.

DNB, which is wholly owned by Minister of Finance Incorporated, has been mandated by the government as a single neutral party undertaking the deployment of 5G infrastructure and network nationwide. – Bernama, June 26, 2022
