KUALA LUMPUR – The government’s decision to extend or lift the conditional movement control order (CMCO) in selected states would be announced on Friday, said Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said the Health Ministry has been asked to conduct risk assessments in the states involved and the results will be presented during the National Security Council (NSC) special meeting this Friday.
Ismail Sabri said the potential decision to lift the CMCO in some states depended on the rate of infections and total cases, among other items assessed.
“If there is no increase in cases and if the Health Ministry deems it safe and considers it to be a green zone, there is a possibility that their CMCO would be ended,” he said during his daily press briefing.
“However, this still depended on the assessment carried out by the Health Ministry.”
The senior minister said although CMCO implemented in most states lasted for a month, the decision to extend the restrictions every two weeks.
On November 9, the government reinstated the CMCO in all but three states in Peninsular Malaysia which lasted four weeks from November 9 to December 6.
The restrictions did not include Kelantan, Perlis, and Pahang.
Ismail Sabri said the latest decision for extension would be announced to the public during a press conference on Friday, after the NSC meeting was held.
“We will wait for Friday when I will announce whether there are states where CMCO would end or continue. We don't know yet.”
“We pray that the states involved do not have a spike in cases and from the Health Ministry's view, there were no more issues. Perhaps (the CMCO) could be focused on certain localities,” he said.
On the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) in selected areas, Ismail Sabri said the Seberang Prai prison and quarters in Pulau Pinang had the restriction extended for another 14 days beginning November 19 until December 2.
He said in Sabah, the government has also extended the EMCO at the Temporary Detention Centre in Tawau, Sandakan Prison, and the prison staff quarters in Taman Wira, Sandakan for 14 days beginning November 20 until December 3.
He also said Zon A and Zon C in Taman Meru, Ipoh would be placed under EMCO between November 20 until December 3. – The Vibes, November 18, 2020.
