KOTA KINABALU – Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has pledged a host of developments in Sabah, including a bridge connecting Labuan and Menumbok, if the coalition wins the next election.
He also promised to build a bridge connecting Pulau Bum-Bum to Semporna if the party wrests Putrajaya in the upcoming polls (GE15).
During his closing speech at the Sabah BN Convention in Penampang today, Zahid pointed to Sabah BN Chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, assuring the latter that the proposed projects will turn into a reality if the coalition wins in GE15.
“Datuk Bung, you (can) promise the delegates that there will be a bridge connecting Labuan and Menumbok, and another bridge in Pulau Bum Bum will also be constructed if BN wins and becomes dominant in Putrajaya,” Zahid said at the event that was attended by over 5,000 Sabah BN delegates.
The proposed Labuan-Menumbok bridge connecting the federal territory of Labuan to Menumbok, Sabah, was proposed by BN back in 2016, and was part of BN’s manifesto promise in the 14th general election. It was said to cost about RM4 billion.
Similarly, BN had mooted the idea for the Pulau Bum Bum-Semporna bridge, over a decade ago.
In April 2018, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had also made the promise to build the bridge, a month before the general election that year (GE14).
Meanwhile, Zahid also promised to speed up the construction of the Sabah Pan Borneo Highway and complete the project within five years if the party takes administration.
“No matter who becomes the prime minister, I will make sure that it will become a priority to speed up the Pan Borneo Highway project (in Sabah) and it will take less than five years to be completed,” he said. – The Vibes, July 2, 2022
