KUALA LUMPUR – A total of 289 people were arrested for various offenses under the conditional movement control order (CMCO) yesterday, with 277 compounds issued, 11 remanded, and one granted bail.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 108 people were hauled up for not wearing masks, while another 59 cases involved activities that made physical distancing difficult.

Another 51 cases were recorded for failure to provide registration of patrons, and 38 people traveled interstate without police clearance.

Another 33 cases, he said, were for other offences.

On Ops Benteng, the minister said authorities had detained 35 illegal immigrants and a smuggler yesterday.

The operation, which mounted 274 roadblocks nationwide, also saw nine vehicles seized.

Ismail Sabri also said that some 70,939 individuals have returned to the country since July 24.

The returnees were placed at 73 hotels and 22 public training institutes, as well as other private learning institutes in the country.

From the total, some 10,498 individuals are still under mandatory quarantine, while 404 have been sent to hospitals for treatment. – The Vibes, November 19, 2020
