THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will record former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob's statement over his asset declaration on Thursday.

Its Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said Ismail Sabri will be called in again to have his statement recorded, following a series of earlier visits.

"As I have mentioned before, this time it concerns the declaration of assets he submitted to us under Section 36(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009," he told a press conference today after attending the 11th Certified Integrity Officer Convocation Ceremony 2025 at the World Trade Centre.

Ismail Sabri had already completed seven sessions providing his statement to the MACC, with the last one on March 24.

It was earlier reported that the Bera MP is expected to be present at MACC till the anti-graft agency has enough evidence to wrap up his corruption and money laundering investigation.

A source revealed that the discovery of an unusually large sum of cash had prompted a more extensive review of documents.

To date, the MACC has seized some RM170 million in cash, held in various international currencies, as well as 16kg of gold bullion worth around RM7 million.

MACC has also frozen 13 bank accounts containing over RM2 million as part of its investigation into Ismail Sabri.

The probe is being conducted under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001. – April 22, 2025
