BUTTERWORTH – Warisan has yet to revise its party constitution to be in line with the amendments to the federal constitution on party-hopping.
The party leadership needs time to study the ramifications of the constitutional amendments as they do not prevent a political party from defecting, said Warisan vice-president Datuk Junz Wong.
He added that this can be unsettling if the winning parties do not command a supermajority in Parliament even though Warisan had voted in support of the amendments.
Despite that, Warisan is keen for Sabah to change the state constitution to be in line with the federal constitution.
“We are keen for Sabah to adopt it at the state level. After all, Sabah has a high rate of party-hoppers. We have suffered as a result of it,” said Wong after launching the Penang Warisan line-up yesterday.
Meanwhile, he said the party remains confident that it will fare well in the coming general election, and will have a say in which party will form the next federal government.
Earlier, Penang Warisan was asked about its stand on mega projects in Penang such as the transport masterplan and sustainable policies.
Its interim chairman Jeff Ooi said the state chapter has a task force to look into those projects as it involves huge costs and substantial effects on the environment. – The Vibes, August 8, 2022
