IPOH – The Land and Mines Office and authorities need to create a new method to speed up the transfer of ownership of unclaimed inheritance land in the state, said Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.
He said that this was necessary as most of the state’s abandoned land could not be developed due to pending transfer matters, such as claims from heirs.
“When we checked with the District and Land Office, we found that the plots of land had owners, but were inherited over several generations and had not been finalised or taken over by the new owners.
“Some agencies such as Felcra, Risda, the Perak State Agricultural Development Corporation, or the Small Farmers’ Cooperative want to develop them, but face the problem of taking over the land rights because the owners have died,” he said, without disclosing the total size of the land involved.
He was met by reporters after the presentation of sporting and academic excellence incentives at the multipurpose hall of the Perak Darul Ridzuan Building here today.
Meanwhile, Saarani said the state government had allocated a total of RM41,400 for athletes born in Perak who managed to achieve success in various sports and academic fields.
“From the total, RM30,500 in incentives is for athletes who record achievements in several international sporting events, including the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, the World Muay Thai Championships, the 2022 World Youth Athletics Championships, and the Asian Youth Cycling Championships.
“RM10,900 has been allocated as incentives for sporting excellence given to 20 Perak athletes who also recorded outstanding achievements in the SPM examination,” he said.
Saarani said the incentives were part of the government’s appreciation and continued support for the athletes who had made the state and country proud, and that he hoped that it would further motivate the athletes who managed to keep a good balance between their sporting careers and academics.
Among those who received the incentives were national sprinter Muhammad Azeem Mohd Fahmi, who set a new national 100m sprint record of 10.09 seconds while competing at the Under-20 World Athletics Championships in Cali, Colombia, and obtained 6As in his SPM, recently.
Muhammad Syafiq Puteh, who won the silver and bronze medal in the diving event at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, also received an incentive of RM6,000. – Bernama, August 17, 2022
