KUALA LUMPUR – Scores of netizens are calling for police to investigate a Twitter user who purportedly threatened chief justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat and her husband Datuk Zamani Ibrahim.
The offending tweet, made by a user with the handle @bossku_team, was a reply to another user who called for Tengku Maimun to recuse herself from former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s ongoing final appeal hearing at the Federal Court.
Twitter user @Ayahanda_MD had questioned the chief justice’s decisions, accusing her of bias due to her husband’s alleged political involvement.
However, these were met with calls for a police investigation due to the content in the tweets, while some users tagged the Royal Malaysian Police’s Twitter account.
Twitter user @Hopeily said: “@PDRMsia, this is a threat to the chief justice,” while @f4izalhassan tweeted: “Hello @PDRMsia. Isn’t this a form of threat against the chief justice? Please take appropriate action.”
Another user @theshazana said police should bring in the offending Twitter users for questioning.
“@PDRMsia. This is a direct and violent threat against a judge and Parliament member. You need to bring this person in for questioning & determine if their threats are legitimate or not.”
Also responding to the tweet was Muda central executive committee member and lawyer Lim Wei Jiet, who said the tweet was outrageous and a form of criminal intimidation.
Some were less courteous, with @dakIlah919 labelling the tweet as “irrelevant” while @TengkorakLu said: “Sorry your opinion means nothing… you lose.”
The Vibes has reached out to the police force for comment.
Currently, the Federal Court is hearing Najib’s final appeal against his conviction over the SRC International Sdn Bhd case.
