MIRI – A fire is raging through a longhouse of 36 housing units in central Sarawak.

The longhouse – Rumah Jungan – is located along the highway from Sibu to Selangau districts.

Fire and rescue units are still in the midst of fighting the blaze.

The fire started at about 7am, said the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department in a press statement.

Each of the 36 households has an average of five people, putting the longhouse’s population at around 200. The exact number of residents and units affected by the fire is still unknown. – The Vibes, August 23, 2022
