[UPDATED] This time, army trailer breaks down in front of Muzium Negara

KUALA LUMPUR – A day after a tank broke down in the middle of a busy road here, an army trailer transporting a tank appears to have broken down – this time in front of Muzium Negara.

The middle and right-most lanes of Jalan Damansara are currently cordoned off with traffic cones as the trailer’s cabin is open with at least 10 soldiers seen peering into the engine.

One army tow truck and two four-wheel drive vehicles are also on site. 

As of 11.32am, a lone traffic police officer is on site.

An hour later, the trailer’s engine can be heard starting up. The soldiers on duty have also closed the engine compartment and appeared to be preparing to move out.

As of 12.52pm, the trailer has been successfully restarted and could finally resume its journey.

The second army breakdown in just as many days has drawn the ire of many, including Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil who directed a tweet at Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

“Military equipment breakdown yet again. Please provide us with an immediate explanation,” read the tweet.

Muda co-founder Dr Mathen Nair also took to the social media platform, describing the incident as proof that the nation’s defence system is “sick and fragile”.

“Just like how we get sick when our immunity defence is weak and broken, that’s how the nation looks right now with a broken defence system.”

Another user by the name of @H_Bakkaniy said these breakdowns would not have been public were it not for the upcoming National Day parade and its rehearsals.

Meanwhile, comedian Dr Jason Leong took a humorous approach to the incident, saying that “Malaysia’s roads can defeat tanks”.

Yesterday, a military tank caused quite a commotion heading to KL Sentral after it broke down in the middle of the road.

Later, Kuala Lumpur City Council’s Command and Control Centre reported that it was successfully towed away. – The Vibes, August 27, 2022
