PENAMPANG – Tired of the divisive politics from peninsula-based parties, Sabahans are no longer politically confused as their votes will most certainly go to local parties, said Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
He said West Malaysian parties that have set foot in Sabah have failed to unite the people with their use of racial and religious cards.
“There is political confusion on who will become the government, whether it is Barisan Nasional (BN) or Perikatan Nasional after the 15th general election.
“Let me tell you, the voters in Sarawak are not confused, as they will choose the local parties.
“There is no confusion. I am confident they will win 28 or 29 seats from all the 31 parliamentary seats because Sarawakians will choose local parties.
“I have this same confidence for Sabah. The voters will choose parties based in Sabah,” he said during his closing address at the party’s general meeting at the KDCA Hall here tonight.
Earlier, Shafie said Umno, PKR, DAP, and PAS, which are already in Sabah have failed to unite the people, but instead created more divisions and squabbles between Sabah’s multi-racial and multi-religious communities.
“Umno was created based on race. MIC and MCA too. PAS was created on the basis of religion, including DAP, which is also created on the basis of race.
“Just look at Barisan Nasional, it only (promotes unity) in its name, but MCA and MIC have been taken for a ride.
“In the last election, MCA won only one seat, Gerakan no seats, MIC only one seat.
“Can they really represent their own race under BN?” he asked
Shafie also expressed disappointment with the country’s laws, which do not allow children born abroad to Malaysian mothers to get automatic citizenship.
Shafie said this was also why Warisan decided to expand to the peninsula as it wants to end the divisive politics there through the promotion of unity.
On another development, Shafie said Warisan will write to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor to call for an emergency state assembly sitting to adopt the anti-party hopping law.
He reiterated Sabah already had such a law, and noted that it is just a matter of reinstating it. – The Vibes, August 27, 2022
