KUALA LUMPUR – Umno Youth chief Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has hit back at the opposition and the Coalition of Free and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0) over their “hypocrisy” regarding the appointment of the attorney-general.

On Facebook, Asyraf said it was “hilarious” that both Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Bersih have slammed his colleague, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman, for wanting a government-friendly AG.

Asyraf also ridiculed the opposition’s “pretence” in calls for the public to respect the judiciary.

“Let’s not forget what PH had done towards the judicial and national legal institution for 22 months of rule,” he said.

Sungguh melucukan apabila BERSIH dan kumpulan PH kini menyelar Datuk Azalina Othman Said kerana mencadangkan bahawa...

Earlier today, DAP’s Beruas MP Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham said Azalina, a former deputy speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, was going against the rule of law with her call, while PKR women’s wing vice-president Sangetha Jayakumar said the Pengerang MP was being hypocritical.

This follows Azalina’s speech at Umno’s special briefing on Saturday where she said a prime minister should rightfully appoint an AG “from his own people”.

Asyraf said that, during PH’s time in government, the Council of Elders had summoned the then chief justice and other senior judges to seek their resignations.

He also noted that DAP had “successfully lobbied” Tun Richard Malanjum to become the chief justice.

“PH had illegitimately sacked the attorney-general and replaced him with DAP’s choice, Tan Sri Tommy Thomas,” he said.

Asyraf also noted that PH had even appointed a PKR leadership council member, Latheefa Koya, as the chief commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

“So... PH and Bersih still have the audacity to urge others to respect the attorney-general and judiciary?” – The Vibes, August 29, 2022
