KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor saw 1,673 new Covid-19 cases today, the highest to be recorded by any state since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry said most of the cases came from the Teratai cluster, which was linked to thousands of workers from Top Glove Corp Bhd’s 28 factories in Meru, Klang.

Yesterday, the Teratai cluster recorded 1,067 new cases, and the company had pledged to cooperate with authorities on the temporary suspension of its factory operations in stages.

This was to help the ministry screen more than 13,000 of its workers in the vicinity.

Yesterday, the company said 5,700 of its workers had already been screened.

The spike in Covid-19 cases among Top Glove workers in Klang in recent weeks has led to the authorities imposing the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) on its worker dormitories and surrounding areas since November 7.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob yesterday said a total of 1,889 Top Glove workers have tested positive for Covid-19. – The Vibes, November 24, 2020
