[UPDATED] Muda, Pakatan must be discreet in seat allocation talks: Syed Saddiq

GEORGE TOWN – Muda, which has opted to align itself with Pakatan Harapan (PH), hopes that all discussions about seat allocation and strategies can be done behind closed doors, said its president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

He said this after attending Penang Muda’s fundraising dinner at Sai Boey Urban Park, here, today.

The fledgling party raised up to RM50,000 for the inaugural event here.

“I think PH and Muda need to be focused and consolidated. We know who our enemy is, and we must focus on dethroning Barisan Nasional (BN),” he said.

The Muar MP was responding to grouses by several quarters in PKR who had expressed their reservations in allocating seats to the new party.

He added that Muda remains daring enough to contest in tough seats contrary to what some quarters assume.

During the Johor election, Muda contested in several tough seats, and it did not lose its deposits in the seats.

Earlier, Penang Muda chairman Jazz Yan said that the party has a presence in all 13 parliamentary constituencies in the state.

When addressing the audience, Syed Saddiq said that the nation’s workers face a depressing situation, as wages have yet to improve for the past 20 years despite the rise in living costs.

“An architect is earning what other architects had earned 20 years ago. This is alarming,” he said.

Many youngsters of his generation, he said, are now forced to work two to three jobs if they want to live reasonably well.

In view of such setbacks, Muda, he said, must aspire to produce an economic system which is fair to all races and can provide equal opportunities for all. 

He added that more attention must also be paid to climate change, saying that if Muda does well in the next general election, it would want Parliament to declare a “climate emergency” in view of the increased frequency of floods and natural disasters. – The Vibes, September 17, 2022
