KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin will be defending her Ampang seat in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15), and the same applies to her party mates in Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).

She said the party does not want to waste time in other seats as its incumbents are capable of defending the parliamentary and state seats they currently hold.

“There is potential for them to defend their seats. The voters already know them and the election machinery is in place,” she told reporters after launching PBM’s Penang office in Juru today.

Zuraida, who is PBM president-designate, did not reveal other parliamentarians who will join the party and run on its ticket in GE15, but will be announced during PBM’s annual general meeting on October 1.

Earlier this month, she teased that PBM would welcome another three MPs and two assemblymen, bringing a total of 14 elected representatives to the party.

Apart from Zuraida’s Ampang parliamentary seat, Larry Sng and Steven Choong will be defending their seats in Julau, Sarawak and Tebrau, Johor, respectively.

As for state seats, PBM has three in Perak – A. Sivasubramaniam (Buntong), Paul Yong (Tronoh), and Leong Cheok Keng (Malim Nawar) – and two in Selangor – Haniza Mohamed Talha (Lembah Jaya), and Daroyah Alwi (Sementa), reported Bernama.

Zuraida won the Ampang seat under the PKR ticket in 2008 before joining Bersatu in 2020 after the Sheraton Move, which led to the fall of the Pakatan Harapan government.

She joined PBM in May this year. – The Vibes, September 24, 2022
