ALOR GAJAH – A mother and her three daughters lost all their belongings when their house in Taman Angkasa Nuri, Durian Tunggal was razed by a fire early this morning.

Liliwati Kaharudin, 50, said during the 1.40am incident, the fire also destroyed three cars and a scooter that belonged to the family.

She added that her 20-year-old daughter had smelt smoke and went to investigate the source before being shocked to find the ground floor on fire, believed to have been caused by the air conditioning.

“I was awakened by her shouts and my eldest daughter, 23, who was awake at the moment, quickly woke up my 15-year-old daughter who was asleep. We rushed out and I tried to save one of the cars but when I approached the car, the windscreen suddenly exploded and I abandoned my plan,” Liliwati told reporters here today.

She added that though neighbours had rushed to help, the raging flames forced them back and almost 80% of the house was destroyed.

She added that a Honda Civic, a BMW 3 Series, and a Yamaha NVX 155 scooter were totally burnt and a Honda HRV was partially burnt, while a neighbour’s Perodua Myvi was also damaged.

Meanwhile, the Ayer Keroh Fire and Rescue station’s operations commander Zahrul Azha Mokthar said it received an emergency call at 1.45am and 10 firefighters were dispatched to the location.

“Upon arrival, we found a double-storey house up in flames. We managed to douse the fire by 2.58am,” he said, adding that investigations were being carried out to determine the cause of the fire and estimated losses. – Bernama, September 27, 2022
