KUALA LUMPUR – A car plunged into a large hole along the side of a road here today after it hit a temporary plastic road barrier apparently placed to mark the hazard by workers doing road repairs.

The incident reportedly happened at Jalan 1/56 near the AU3 residential area this morning.

According to a Facebook post by Redaksi.com, the victims were reported to be safe.

Photos and videos of people rushing to the scene to help and of the vehicle’s occupants being removed from the car have gone viral on social media.

Wangsa Maju district police chief Supt Ashari Abu Samah later said that the driver, a 32-year-old woman, had hit the barrier on the left lane under repair and fallen into the underground area.

“The initial investigation found an accident involving a Toyota Vios model car. Despite the collision, the driver and passenger were not injured.

“The victim’s car was towed out of the repair area,” he said in a statement today.

He added the case is classified under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 (LN 166/59) for allegedly sleeping while driving or recklessly driving the vehicle.

Members of the public who have any questions or information on this matter can contact the Jalan Tun H. S. Lee station’s traffic police at 03-2071 9999, the Kuala Lumpur traffic police at 03-2026 0267/69, or any nearby police station. – The Vibes, September 28, 2022
