KUALA LUMPUR – The 3 sen subsidy for grade A, B and C eggs will be increased to 8 sen, said Task Force on Jihad Against Inflation chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

He said the decision made during the cabinet meeting today would mean that the government will have to pay more than RM90 million per month for the subsidy programme.

The cabinet, he said, also agreed to not raise or float the market price of eggs.

He added the decisions were made after taking into account the needs of the people and the burden of the increased cost of egg production borne by producers as well as distributors.

“To overcome the problem, the cabinet agreed to accept recommendations from the Agriculture and Food Industries Ministry, the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, and the Jihad Inflation Task Force to increase the subsidy from 3 sen to 8 sen.

“The cabinet also agreed that the existing subsidy for whole chicken should continue,” he said. – The Vibes, October 7, 2022
