KUALA LUMPUR – Rejecting Budget 2021 will cause instability, said Barisan Nasional secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa, ahead of today’s expected vote in the Dewan Rakyat.
In a tweet today, he said: “Even when BN was the opposition, we never rejected any national Budget. What more to reject a Budget that will cause national instability.
“The people will be the victims. This evening, we will see who betrays the people.”

He added that BN parliamentarians will support Perikatan Nasional’s maiden national Budget.
He said BN MPs realise the importance of Budget 2021 for the people, especially in these trying times of Covid-19.
Annuar’s tweet comes on the heels of grumblings over the possibility of the Budget being rejected as Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin only holds a razor-thin majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
Going by the last Dewan Rakyat seating arrangement, Muhyiddin has 112 MPs, of which 38 are Umno MPs, following the death of Gerik MP Datuk Hasbullah Osman.
Muhyiddin is said to be experiencing difficulties convincing Umno backbenchers, due to growing discontent in the largest Malay-based party over how it is being treated in the ruling PN coalition.
For example, Pekan MP Datuk Seri Najib Razak had, during his Budget 2021 debate, said Umno would be voting against Budget 2021 if two of its conditions – a blanket loan moratorium until June and a one-off RM10,000 EPF withdrawal – are not met.
On Tuesday, 20 BN ministers had, in a joint statement, declared their support for Budget 2021, adding that other BN parliamentarians will follow suit to ensure the government’s plan to uplift the people and restore the economy can be implemented soon.
Among the BN ministers who signed the statement were Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Khairy Jamaluddin, Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong and Datuk Seri M. Saravanan.
Absent from the list was BN chairman and Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
However, on November 4 – two days before Budget 2021 was tabled – Zahid had assured Muhyiddin that all BN MPs will give their “undivided support” for Budget 2021. – The Vibes, November 26, 2020
