KOTA KINABALU – A Bersatu candidate winning any federal seat will contribute to Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) tally in the general election, not Barisan Nasional (BN), said Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin last night.

Muhyiddin admitted and accepted the situation in Sabah as “special” as Umno and Bersatu are working together in the state but are rivals in the peninsula for the 15th general election.

“Basically, it is true because Bersatu is in Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), similarly like in the peninsula.

“A party using a different symbol but that person comes from that particular party, that means that party wins that seat.

“The same will apply in Sabah. If Bersatu contests under the GRS symbol, it will contribute to PN in terms of seats won,” he told reporters after attending a briefing with Sabah Bersatu leaders here last night.

Also present were Sabah Bersatu chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and other top Bersatu leaders in the state.

GRS comprises Sabah Bersatu, Sabah Star, PBS, Usno and SAPP. Sabah Bersatu, Sabah Star and SAPP are also components of PN.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin said GRS is now in the midst of finalising its seat distribution with BN and all lists of candidates from Sabah Bersatu will be submitted to him soon.

As for the candidates, he said he is leaving it to Hajiji’s prerogative to decide, as well as the party’s manifesto for Sabah and other party-related matters.

He said with Sabah Bersatu taking the lead in GRS, the party will also take charge in the election for both GRS and Barisan Nasional in Sabah.

He stressed, however, that any decision made by Hajiji must benefit PN first. – The Vibes, October 12, 2022
