KUALA LUMPUR – Amanah communications director Khalid Abdul Samad is likely to contest the Titiwangsa parliamentary seat in the impending 15th general election (GE15) so that a younger candidate can stand in Shah Alam.

The Shah Alam incumbent MP said the younger person would be someone of calibre and from the Shah Alam grassroots.

“Yes, I’m letting go of the seat and will very likely contest the Titiwangsa seat.

“Of course, I am very particular about Shah Alam, and will not surrender it to someone that I have no confidence in,” he said today after a Pakatan Harapan meeting.

Khalid has been an MP for Shah Alam for three terms, winning each time since 2008 with increasing majorities.

His winning margin in 2018 was the highest, at nearly 34,000.

Amanah election director Datuk Asmuni Awi in a statement earlier today had also confirmed that Khalid would be moved to contest in Titiwangsa, calling it an “extraordinary sacrifice” to give up Shah Alam, which has repeatedly supported him.

Asmuni added that Amanah is confident of Khalid’s ability to win in Titiwangsa, given his track record as a former federal territories minister.

Meanwhile, Khalid today also said that out of the 11 parliamentary seats Amanah won in 2018, “five to six” of them will see new and young candidates in GE15. – The Vibes, October 23, 2022
