KUALA LUMPUR – Amanah has sacked its Kedah chief Datuk Phahrolrazi Mohd Zawawi with immediate effect, citing violations against the party constitution.

His responsibilities will be assumed by Kedah Amanah deputy chairman Datuk Ismail Salleh, said party secretary-general Datuk Mohd Hatta Md Ramli.

Phahrolrazi is also removed as Amanah ordinary member effective today.

In Hatta’s statement, he cited Clause 6.2(b), and that Phahrolrazi has violated the party’s constitution, by disobeying decisions and taking actions that are against the party’s interest.

Meanwhile, Amanah communications director Khalid Abd Samad said in a statement that its national management committee sacked Phahrolrazi for instigating the Kedah Amanah leaders and members to boycott GE15.

He said although there were differences in opinion over the party’s strategies and seat distribution, the instigation was unacceptable.

“It was an act of sabotage and could affect the interests of Amanah and PH. Amanah thanks him for his contributions to the party all this while, and for being one of the early leaders in the party’s formation, as well as being our Kedah chairman, but his action was over the limit.”

Yesterday, The Vibes reported that Phahrolrazi instructed all state party leaders and members not to attend the programme scheduled to take place in Merbok, Kedah as a retaliatory move against giving up the Jerai parliamentary seat to DAP.

In return, the Alor Gajah federal constituency, which has been traditionally contested by DAP prior to the 2018 general election, is now set to be given to Amanah.

The Vibes also learned that former Melaka chief minister and state Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Adly Zahari is tipped to contest in the seat, which is currently held by Bersatu’s Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof.

This supposed arrangement between DAP and Amanah is said to have infuriated members of PKR’s Alor Gajah division, who have been conducting groundwork and campaigning for the seat in recent years.

The division is particularly dissatisfied with PKR’s top leadership’s decision to not make any attempt in negotiating for the constituency. – The Vibes, October 30, 2022
