KUALA LUMPUR – The internal drama plaguing fledgling party Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) will have to be resolved among the members as the Registrar of Societies (RoS) has confirmed that Larry Sng is party president.

RoS chief director Mohd Nawardi Saad confirmed that based on available documents, Sng is the legitimate party president and disputes over his role have nothing to do with RoS.

“(Arguments over the presidential title) is PBM’s internal issue, which they must settle amongst themselves. This does not involve RoS,” he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.

Today, Sng is expected to hold a supreme council meeting at 4pm in Sarikei, Sarawak while Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin is also having a press conference here, with a media invite stating that she is PBM president.

Sng told The Vibes’ sister portal Getaran that the RoS confirmation cleared up everyone’s confusion over the drama that has recently plagued the party.

“I don’t think there is any need to comment further because this matter has already been discussed for the past few days. We even have a copy of the registration certified by RoS regarding the list of PBM committee members, which clearly informs me that I am still the president.

“I think this confirmation is to avoid confusion among voters. I also do not want to affect the ability of the candidates for the 15th general election.

“This is due to the fact that there is an incorrect document causing confusion about who the real president is.”

On October 8, then PBM secretary-general Nor Hizwan Ahmad issued a statement on behalf of the party announcing that its president-designate Zuraida was the party president, with the unanimous backing of its supreme council.

Sng subsequently denied the reports and proceeded to suspend Hizwan and party information chief Zakaria Abdul Hamid on October 27, claiming that RoS records state that he is still the party’s legitimate president.

Sng also suspended Zuraida and 12 supreme council members yesterday, saying in a statement that the suspensions are related to their “ongoing involvement in undermining the interest of the party and its leadership”.

Sng and Zuraida were from PKR, but left the party, with Sng doing so to become an independent MP before forming PBM, while Zuraida joined Bersatu, which she later quit for PBM. – The Vibes, October 30, 2022
