KOTA KINABALU – Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH) secretary Simsuddin Sidek will likely be the coalition’s pick to run for the Labuan parliamentary seat in the 15th general election (GE15), said a source.

Simsuddin is also PKR chief for the Labuan division.

This leaves the Kinabatangan seat, which according to the source, will either be contested by PKR or Muda. This puts them in a clash with Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, who has held the seat for five consecutive terms.

This comes after PH announced its candidates for 24 of Sabah’s 25 parliamentary seats yesterday, with coalition chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirming that PKR will field a candidate in Labuan.

PH has also unveiled 10 PKR candidates for Sabah, while DAP has seven, Upko with five, as well as one each for Amanah and Muda.

Last night, Anwar said in a press conference here that there is still time to finalise the candidates before nomination day on Saturday.

“There are still many parties that have not announced their candidates. In the peninsula, we (PKR) are the earliest to announce – the same in Sabah.”

He added that central PH leaders were not involved in the selection of Sabah candidates, and the picks were from the state chapters.
