GE15: explain profit made from Invoke, Rashid tells Rafizi

KUALA LUMPUR – Batu Pahat incumbent MP Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon has hit back at PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli over the share ownership of Invoke Solutions Sdn Bhd valued at RM16.7 million.

In a statement today, Rashid said that Invoke was built on the back of public support and was not meant to enrich anyone.

“Even if Rafizi does not sell or dispose of the shares anytime soon, these are millions in wealth that he now owns. The source of the wealth is the public-interest initiative, Invoke.

“He has profited, and the profit is massive. Ordinary Malaysians can only dream of earning RM16 million, even if they worked their whole lifetimes.”

Rashid also urged Rafizi to address this in the interest of transparency as he is now a GE15 candidate, and reminded the former Pandan MP that Invoke is not a for-profit organisation.

“Rafizi had said even if there is profit, Invoke cannot use the profit for personal gain, including for shareholders like himself. These statements can also be found on his website,” he added.

“The enhancement of the value of the shares is clearly a profit or gain to Rafizi. Crucially, nowhere does Rafizi state that the shares are held in trust for utilisation through public programmes or other initiatives that benefit the public.

“It is declared as his own assets, belonging to him and part of his personal wealth. He is not stated as the nominal owner. Rafizi is the absolute beneficial owner.”

Rashid then questioned Rafizi on keeping “the massively increased value of the shares as his personal wealth”.

Rashid won the Batu Pahat seat in 2018 on PKR’s ticket and defected to Bersatu as part of the Sheraton Move in February 2020 that led to the fall of the Pakatan Harapan federal administration. He was also the former Batu Pahat PKR chief.

On Wednesday, Rafizi declared his net assets of RM18.85 million and a debt of RM820,274 ahead of the 15th general election (GE15).

His declaration, detailed on his blog, shows that the bulk of his assets are investments worth a total of RM16,737,408. Most of this is in the form of company shares in Invoke Solutions, the company that does data analytics work, including for PKR.

Rafizi also declared savings and cash worth RM1.17 million, as well as two properties in Bukit Antarabangsa, Selangor, totalling RM1.6 million, and cars, namely a Peugeot 3008 and a Honda Accord, together valued at RM110,000. He also reported a monthly gross income of RM23,500.

On Facebook, he said PKR candidates for GE15 would also be asked to declare their assets, which would be available for public scrutiny on a website.

“As elections director (of PKR), let me be the first PKR candidate to declare my assets.” – The Vibes, November 4, 2022
