KOTA KINABALU – The Sabah police will tighten control in 10 areas identified as hotspots in the state throughout the campaigning period of the 15th general election (GE15) and the Bugaya state by-election.
Sabah police commissioner Datuk Idris Abdullah said the areas identified are the parliamentary constituencies of Sepanggar, Kota Kinabalu, Putatan, Papar, Kudat, Libaran, Sandakan, Lahad Datu, Semporna, and Tawau.
“A total of 7,028 police personnel in the state will be on duty during GE15,” he said in a statement today.
Nominations for GE15 and the Bugaya by-election will be conducted tomorrow, and there will be a campaign period of 14 days until 11.59pm on November 18.
According to Idris, the deployment of security personnel during the nomination day tomorrow will see the involvement of 2,141 personnel at 26 nomination centres.
“Supporters for each political party at the nomination centres are advised not to create any provocations and obstruct traffic when parking their vehicles. Also, drones are prohibited,” he said.
He added that Sabah police have identified 87 areas in the state that are not easily accessible by road and would require the service of helicopters to ferry the ballot boxes. – Bernama, November 4, 2022
