JULAU – The parliamentary constituency here will see a four-cornered fight this 15th general election (GE15).

Incumbent Datuk Larry Sng, who won the seat in the 2018 general election (GE14), is defending the seat under his newly formed Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).

He is facing former four-term Julau MP Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Susan George@Suhana Abdullah of PBDS and an independent candidate Elly Lawai.

Sng, in traditional Iban costume, arrived at the nomination centre at 8.45am, accompanied by George Robin Bjit (proposer) and Baca Manggie (seconder) while Susan and Elly arrived with their respective proposer and seconder much earlier.

Salang, with his proposer Moris Nyanong and seconder Jantan Uchong, arrived at the nomination centre at 9am.

Among those who turned up to support Salang were Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat, Pakan assemblyman Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom and PRS secretary-general Datuk Janang Bungsu, who accompanied the GPS candidate to the nomination centre.

Returning officer Wee Teck Ming, in an announcement after the nomination process, said all nomination papers filed by four aspiring candidates had been accepted.

In GE14, Sng and Salang were involved in a straight fight, which saw the former emerge victorious after garnering a total of 10,105 votes against 8,174 votes obtained by the former. – Borneo Post Online, November 5, 2022
