KOTA KINABALU – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) will test and study the accuracy and efficiency of Covid-19 test kits produced by a company in Wuhan, China.
The effort is a collaboration between UMS and the Sabah Chinese Chambers of Commerce (SCCC).
SCCC secretary-general Tan Kok Jyh said other than helping Sabah to battle the Covid-19 pandemic, the collaboration will also boost research and development (R&D) activities to benefit the community.
“We made the move as we are concerned with the Covid-19 pandemic situation in Sabah. The Covid-19 test kits have not been used in Sabah so far.
“UMS is the first university entrusted to conduct this research, as we are confident with its capacity, equipment and expertise for this purpose,” he said.
Tan said this after handing over the test kits to UMS vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Taufiq Yap Yun Hin at the Health Science Faculty of the university.
Taufiq said UMS is proud to be chosen to undergo the effort and thanked SCCC for entrusting the university with conducting the research.
He added that he hopes for the collaboration to continue to contribute to the community in Sabah. – The Vibes, November 28, 2020
