BALIK PULAU – Pakatan Harapan (PH) is not entering the general election only to change leaders, but to revamp the administrative system and ensure the country returns to its progressive path after decades of malfeasance, said PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The PKR president said voters need to understand that if PH is given the mandate, it plans to make sure proper reforms for the country’s future are implemented .
“We are not talking about changing leaders only. The rotten system needs an overhaul,” said Anwar, who was visiting Kg Seronok in Bayan Lepas.
Kg Seronok was formerly an award-winning village for its landscape as well as its homestay programmes for tourism.
Anwar had intervened when local authorities wanted to dismantle illegal structures outside the village a decade ago, stressing that Kg Seronok needed to be conserved and preserved for future generations as it was a traditional village.
Accompanied by PH’s Balik Pulau candidate Datuk Muhammed Bakhtiar Wan Chik and Bayan Lepas assemblyman Azrul Mahathir Aziz, Anwar told the villagers that there were strong ties between all PH coalition partners.
“We get along as well as members of any other coalition. DAP and Amanah listen to me, and I listen to them. And let me stress here that I am nobody’s stooge.”
“We need to work together as strong partners in politics and that is the coalition’s strength,” said Anwar, who is contesting the Tambun federal seat in Perak.
He also took a swipe at PH’s rivals for trying to pit its partners against each other, saying that theirs is a friendship that has stood the test of time.
Anwar also stressed that harping on racial and religious issues in the country has its limitations, with the world edging towards globalisation.
“Trying to segregate people based on race or religion will fail, more so in Malaysia, whose population is relatively small compared to other nations.
“It is better we tolerate each other rather than sow seeds of hatred by harping on race and religion, as such forms of politics are counterproductive to nation building,” said Anwar – The Vibes, November 6, 2022
