KUALA LUMPUR – Pakatan Harapan is willing to cancel the candidacy of its Sg Buloh candidate Datuk R. Ramanan if there was evidence that he had broken the law and was involved in graft, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

According to Berita Harian, the opposition leader, however, said that there has yet to be any proof or factual evidence that Ramanan was involved in these activities.

“Any accusation must be accompanied by solid proof and facts. I have vetted all our (PH) candidates with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and police to the best of my abilities.

“The perception that people may have (on Ramanan) is different. Recently, there were people who said I am an Israeli agent, we cannot support Anwar because he is LGBT, or an American agent, and a lot of other agents.”

Anwar said this during a lecture entitled “What’s with Corruption?” at the Connexion Centre in Bangsar here this afternoon.

Despite receiving brickbats from several quarters, including opposition supporters, on the fielding of Ramanan for the seat, Anwar said he is defending the individual although questions have been raised.

He said this was because PH had reviewed Ramanan’s candidacy after receiving complaints although they came without any proof.

Anwar said the main point raised was that Ramanan was formerly from the MIC, even though the candidate had opposed Umno while he was part of the BN component party. – The Vibes, November 9, 2022
