PADANG BESAR –  Perlis is the ideal location for veteran security personnel who wish to start a business in the tourism and hospitality industry, said Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin.

He said most military and police veterans have various skills, such as parachuting, diving and hill-climbing, and they could capitalise on coaching as Perlis has suitable sites for these activities.

“These veterans could commercialise their talents and strengths by organising courses on hiking techniques, for example, at attractive tourist spots in the state.”

Earlier Zahidi officiated at a Malaysian Armed Forces veteran leadership programme and launch of the Non-Pensionable Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association Fund at Tasik Timah Tasoh Recreation Park.

Meanwhile, Zahidi said he would hold discussions with the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry on introducing affordable food programmes for veterans.

“We can help reduce veterans’ cost of living if we can import goods such as rice and sugar, but this requires the support of the current government,” he added. – Bernama, November 28, 2020
