KUALA LUMPUR – The technical teams in Prasarana Malaysia Bhd and Thales Group will be closely monitoring the Kelana Jaya LRT service over the next few days.

Caretaker transport minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong said he has been receiving regular updates from Prasarana group CEO Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah on the troubled LRT service.

“Early this morning, I received a report from Azharuddin saying that the trains have been moving smoothly during peak hours.

“At about 11am, I received another update, also from Prasarana, that the trains and system are still operating well without any hiccups so far.

“I am relieved to see operations running well.

“However, I have told Prasarana, including our technical team and Thales Group (signalling supplier of the Kelana Jaya LRT Line), to be on standby and ensure the LRT line continues to run well,” he was quoted as saying by The Star, after visiting a temple in Stulang Laut, Johor.

He added that the teams can act swiftly if there are any issues this week.

Yesterday, he joined operator Rapid Rail’s management team on a test ride before the service resumed this morning.

The 16 affected stations between Kelana Jaya and Ampang Park were reopened at 6am today.

The trains were packed during the morning rush hour, while auxiliary police at the stations were on hand for crowd control.

In a statement yesterday, Azharuddin said the resumption of the rail line – two days earlier than scheduled – was made possible following the approval by the Land Public Transport Agency.

Last Wednesday, Rapid Rail announced that 16 stations between Kelana Jaya and Ampang Park were to be shut down for a week due to purported technical issues, following two days of service disruption.

The following day, Wee confirmed that the LRT’s Operations Control Centre and representatives from the rail system’s original equipment manufacturer, Thales Group, have been running tests on the suspended commuter service.

In addition, operator Rapid Rail yesterday announced that compensation for Kelana Jaya Line will be provided to My50, Touch N’ Go and token users from today to November 20. – The Vibes, November 14, 2022
