KUALA LUMPUR – The RM200 million Budget 2021 allocation for the Election Commission (EC) has piqued the interest of Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan (BN-Pontian), who asked if a general election is on the cards next year.

Currently, Budget 2021 has allocated RM200 million to the EC, a significant increase from the RM71 million it received this year.

“There are no more by-elections, so why increase the EC allocation from RM71 million to RM200 million? Is the government planning to have a general election in 2021?” he asked.

He also questioned when automatic voter registration will begin, how many above 18 years old will be registered and how many of those above 21 have yet to register.

Meanwhile, he also highlighted the RM158 million allocated for the National Audit Department.

“No one knows the value of assets owned by the government. I want to know the Audit Department’s role on this matter.”

In addition, he said the Public Services Commission has been allocated RM39 million.

He asked the government to specify the number of vacancies in the civil service, particularly for next year, and what efforts are being made to fill them. – The Vibes, November 30, 2020
