KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has his reasons for the recent cabinet appointments, said PKR’s Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin.
In a Twitter post, Shamsul said this also applied to the Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s appointment as deputy prime minister despite it being a controversial move.
“During breakfast in Parit 19 earlier today, I received various reactions to Anwar’s cabinet, particularly on the appointment of Zahid as the deputy prime minister that has sparked ire,” he said in a tweet.
“However, there is always a basis for the decision made by our prime minister,” he added.
Shamsul then equated Anwar’s decision to a Malay proverb “ibarat kilat di dalam kilau, kabus di dalam hujan”, which indicates that one’s true intentions can be surmised in their speech and behaviour.
According to PKR mouthpiece Suara Keadilan, Amanah leader Mohamad Sabu said that the unity government formation came about due to many factors that, if not addressed, could jeopardise the country.
He said that Malaysia would face turmoil and chaos if there was no intervention in Perikatan Nasional’s use of racialised campaign to win the 15th general election.
“We did not decide from earlier on to form a (unity) government. We did not plan to be friendly with Umno,” he reportedly said during a talk in Padang Serai yesterday.
“It was outside of what we planned, but we are now taking this opportunity to save Malaysia,” the Amanah president said.
Similarly, Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil said that it was vital to appoint ministers based on party choices, and not solely the prime minister’s, in order to avoid the fate of the previous Pakatan Harapan government, which fell following the Sheraton Move.
“Like it or not, the prime minister has to communicate with respective parties, it is up to each party to choose (their ministerial candidates),” he was quoted saying by Suara Keadilan.
“We mustn’t interfere with any party’s affairs. That was the mistake of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, and Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
“When ineligible individuals are appointed and named, then there will be a second competition (within the government), which is not healthy,” Fahmi added. – The Vibes, December 3, 2022
