LABUAN – A total of 54 athletes and 17 coaches under the Federal Territories Sports Council today received three months of training allowances from the Federal Territories Ministry, involving an allocation of RM70,000.

The fund through the council was for the month of October until December.

Labuan Corporation chief executive officer and Labuan Sports Council chairman Dr Fary Akmal Osman said the council also channelled RM40,000 in financial assistance to 20 sports associations to help lessen their financial burden in facing the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The council also channeled RM26,000 to these associations for their scout talents development programme of potential athletes,” she said at the presentation of the fund at Wisma Perbadanan Labuan today.

Fary said the training allowance, Covid-19 financial aid, and scout talent incentives were part of the government’s caring programmes towards the welfare of athletes, coaches and associations.

“We understand the predicament of coaches and association managements in preparing the necessary safety tools and equipment like sanitisers and face masks for their athletes while training during the recovery movement control order,” she said. – Bernama, November 30, 2020
