KUALA LUMPUR – The Umno Supreme Council meeting tonight lacked the attendance of two out of three of the party’s vice-presidents, namely former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.

The sole vice-president in attendance, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, confirmed the matter to reporters after the meeting at the Umno headquarters here ended at around 10.30pm.

“(Ismail Sabri) sent us his apologies for not being able to attend tonight’s meeting,” he briefly said before leaving Menara Dato’ Onn.

“He has another event to attend.”

A few minutes later, a party official confirmed that no press statement will be issued tonight on the first Umno Supreme Council meeting since new Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced his cabinet lineup.

Meanwhile, Supreme Council member Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi told reporters that the party will leave it to Anwar to investigate how government funds worth RM600 billion were allegedly misappropriated during Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s time as prime minister.

“There was a discussion on the RM600 billion issue… we believe that it must be investigated thoroughly and comprehensively,” he said.

He reiterated that the party is pushing for issues involving former attorney-general Tan Sri Tommy Thomas and the alleged mismanagement of Tabung Haji funds to be resolved soon. – The Vibes, December 8, 2022
