GEORGE TOWN – General Operations Force (GOF) Sergeant Norihan Tari, who was injured in a shooting incident while patrolling the Malaysia-Thailand border in Padang Besar, is recovering well at Penang Hospital here.

Penang police chief Datuk Sahabudin Abd Manan said Norihan, who underwent surgery to remove two of the three bullets on Thursday, can now breathe on his own without respiratory assistance.

“He can already drink and eat soft food.

“He can also walk with the help of a walker frame,” he said in a statement today.

Norihan, 39, who was transferred from Tunku Fauziah Hospital, Kangar, to Penang Hospital last Wednesday, underwent surgery to remove two of the three bullets in his body.

In the incident at 3.10am last Tuesday, Norihan and Sergeant Baharuddin Ramli, 54, engaged in a shoot-out with two groups of smugglers near the Malaysia-Thailand border.

Baharuddin was killed while Norihan was seriously injured. Both are members of the GOF's 3rd Battalion (Senoi Praaq), Northern Brigade. – The Vibes, December 1, 2020
