THE long-abandoned SMK Suria Jaya project is finally set to open its doors this September, marking the completion of one of the last major stalled projects in the Parit Yaani state constituency.

Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Parit Yaani, Datuk Najib Samuri, said the school, whose construction was left unfinished in 2008 before work resumed in 2023, will welcome its first intake of about 200 Form One and Form Two students on Sept 7.

He said the school is expected to operate at full capacity from January next year, accommodating up to 1,200 students with the support of 180 teachers and administrative staff.

According to Najib, the new school will benefit students living in Parit Yaani, Sri Medan and Yong Peng, reducing travel time and easing congestion at existing schools in the area.

He also highlighted the completion of Jalan Tan Sri Mohamad, a 7.2-kilometre road linking Peserai and Parit Jalil, which was opened to the public in December 2025.

“The project was stalled during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 before construction resumed in 2023,” he told reporters today.

Najib said the completion of both projects fulfils a key pledge made during the 2022 Johor state election to resolve long-standing stalled developments in the constituency.

He also announced that Jalan Panchor (Parit Salleh) was officially renamed Jalan Kampung Beroleh, effective Feb 10 this year. - June 25, 2026
