KUALA LUMPUR – The government’s decision to provide a 30% reduction in assessment tax will reduce the financial burden borne by Putrajaya residents, especially civil servants, Senator Datuk Mohd Hisamudin Yahaya said.

A total of 8,500 buyers of 1Malaysia Civil Servants Housing Scheme and 1Malaysia Housing Scheme homes costing RM300,000 and below can now breathe easy following the decision, he added.

“The high cost of living already burdens them so this discount will be greatly appreciated, what more with the looming challenges of the global economy next year,” he said in a statement today.

According to him, the reduction proves the unity government’s concern towards the plight of Malaysians, especially the M40 and B40 groups in Putrajaya where property assessments were higher compared to other areas.

Hisamudin said Putrajaya residents also hoped that the reduction would be maintained for the long term.

“I’m confident this ‘gift’ will boost the spirit of civil servants and Putrajaya residents who are affected by the rising living costs,” he said.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that all residences under RM300,000 in Putrajaya will receive a 30% discount in assessment tax effective January 1 next year until a reassessment is made by the Putrajaya Corporation. – Bernama, December 23, 2022
