KUALA LUMPUR – Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil conveyed his appreciation and thanks to all personnel involved in the search-and-rescue operations at Father’s Organic Farm campsite landslide, Gohtong Jaya in Batang Kali, Selangor.

He also thanked all media practitioners who were on assignment at the site of the incident for their effortless coverage of the tragedy and its developments.

“My most sincere appreciation to those involved in the search and rescue effort that ended today and condolences to the families of the victims of the Batang Kali landslide tragedy,” he posted on Facebook yesterday.

In a separate Facebook post, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan also conveyed his appreciation to the search-and-rescue team.

“The sacrifice and contributions of all involved are deeply appreciated,” he said.

Search efforts to locate the last victim of the tragedy ended today with the discovery of the 31st victim’s body, a boy believed to be between seven and 12 years old, at 4.53pm, buried under approximately 1.5m of earth.

The remains were found in an upside-down position on the bank of a hill in a sleeping bag, about 4m from Sector A – the hill view campsite.

The landslide that hit in the early morning of December 16 resulted in the death of 31 victims, 18 adults and 13 children. The remaining 61 victims out of 92 reported victims survived. – Bernama, December 25, 2022
