JOHOR BARU – Agriculture and Food Security Minister Mohamad Sabu said the supply of eggs and chicken will return to normal, following consultation with the Federation Of Livestock Farmers Associations Of Malaysia (FLFAM).
In a statement, he said the meeting, which was headed by FLFAM president Tan Chee Hee, saw discussions focus on the sustainability and competitiveness of Malaysia’s meat and egg industry.
Issues raised by FLFAM included long-term price controls that resulted in financial losses for livestock farmers given they are not able to cope with the rising costs of production.
“In the meeting, FLFAM guaranteed that the supply of chicken and eggs will return to normal and would be enough for local markets by this month.
“FLFAM also thanked the government for their effort and support to find solutions to this problem which arose due to challenges faced in the global food supply chain,” the ministry said in a statement today.
Additionally, the ministry said it will remain committed to holding consultations with industry players to ensure supplies of food would be able to cope with the nation’s needs.
Just last month, the ministry brought in a large shipment of chicken and eggs from foreign countries to meet market demands.
Meanwhile, on January 16, Mohamad announced that the import of eggs from India will continue until local supply is able to meet demands here. – The Vibes, January 21, 2023
