KUALA LUMPUR – Former education minister Maszlee Malik has made a public apology to women regarding his use of inappropriate words for his role in the television drama Kudeta.
On Facebook, Maszlee acknowledged his mistake of playing the role of an imprisoned prime minister who used “improper” words and of disturbing the emotional and mental well-being of viewers.
“I realise the effectiveness of films and dramas in conveying a good message to the public. However, it is not to the point of offending sensitivity and culture.”
“I am also extremely grateful to everyone who gave me advice, and reminders, whether personally or publicly,” said Maszlee in a statement, as quoted by The Vibes’ Bahasa Malaysia sister-portal Getaran.
The former Simpang Renggam MP had also urged the show’s broadcaster Astro to censor the scene.
“May God forgive all my mistakes and bring us all together in goodness,” said Maszlee.
At the same time, he also invited Malaysians to watch Kudeta, which is the first Malay drama to include elements of politics, thriller films, and action.
“There is a lot to be learned from the show, excluding the controversial five-second scene,” he said.
Previously, Maszlee shared a video of his acting chops in the drama series but received negative responses from his followers on Facebook.
However, as of 3.50pm, the video is no longer accessible as it has been deleted from his Facebook page. – The Vibes, January 29, 2023
