KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was not well enough to attend the national-level Thaipusam celebration at Batu Caves this morning, according to Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar.
Astro Awani quoted the minister as saying that Anwar said he had to go to hospital to receive treatment.
“The prime minister was supposed to attend the Thaipusam celebration at Batu Caves today, but he contacted me earlier this morning to inform that he was unwell and had to go to hospital for treatment,” Sivakumar told the media after attending the celebration at the Sri Subramaniar Swamy temple at Batu Caves this morning.
Anwar is planning a session with temple committees nationwide in the near future, Sivakumar added.
An aide to Anwar, when contacted, confirmed the prime minister was unwell today but insisted that his condition is “nothing serious”.
Meanwhile, the prime minister wished Malaysian Hindus a happy Thaipusam in greetings posted on Facebook.
“The many festivals and cultures in Malaysia are a powerful force for us to build understanding in our multiracial nation.
“Let us together strengthen unity and harmony for the sake of our beloved nation,” Anwar said in his post. – The Vibes, February 5, 2023
