KUALA LUMPUR – Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah will have an audience with Perak Speaker Datuk Mohamad Zahir Abdul Khalid to discuss what transpired in the state assembly this morning.
The meeting is set to take place at Istana Kinta Lama at 5pm.
The Perak ruler has also granted an audience to state Secretary Datuk Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim and the state legal adviser at 4.30pm to discuss the same matter.
‘The meeting with the state secretary and legal adviser is to discuss the fact that Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Uzumu has lost the confidence of the state assembly,” a source told The Vibes.
“The sultan will then have an audience with the speaker, for the latter to formally inform (Sultan Nazrin about) what transpired.”
Faizal lost a vote of confidence today, with an overwhelming 48 of the state’s 59 assemblymen opposing him.
Datuk Abdul Manaf Hashim (BN-Pengkalan Baharu), who tabled the motion, cited the menteri besar’s questionable support, as well as the public perception of Perak’s “backdoor” administration.
“The best way to determine who has public support is through an election. But because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the country’s financial situation, we cannot hold an election.”
Therefore, he said, the next best way to determine Faizal’s legitimacy is through a vote.
Zahir allowed the motion to be fast-tracked following the submission of emergency motions by Salbiah Mohamed (BN-Temenggor) and Howard Lee (PH-Pasir Pinji).
Faizal has acknowledged the result of the vote, and promised a smooth handover.
He expressed hope that the new state administration will not cancel ongoing projects due to personal agendas. – The Vibes, December 4, 2020
