KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari today said his directorship in a company awarded a project by the state government was to protect the state’s interests.
He lashed out against Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) move to lodge a police report against him over claims of power abuse involving a multi-million ringgit mega-project by Landasan Lumayan Berjaya Sdn Bhd (LLB), which was awarded via direct negotiations with the state government.
“As has been stated by Landasan Lumayan Berjaya Sdn Bhd before this, my presence and that of (state exco) Izham Hashim in the company are not due to personal interests.
“Instead, we are there to represent the state government to ensure that its interests are protected,” the Gombak MP told reporters at Parliament’s media centre here today.
He said PN’s police report against him was an “empty bullet” intended to raise doubt over his leadership.
Earlier today, Selangor PN chief Mohd Shukor Mustaffa filed a police report against Amirudin, Izham, and several other individuals.
This follows claims by Green Party secretary Abdul Razak Ismail yesterday that the duo, along with tycoon Tan Sri Vincent Tan, are directors of LLB, which was allegedly handed a project known as the Selangor Maritime Gateway, which is said to cost RM700 million.
The project, Razak said, involves the deepening of a 56km stretch of the Klang River from Mid Valley City in Kuala Lumpur to Port Klang.
LLB director Syaiful Azmen Nordin has since clarified that the project does not involve fund injections from the state government, noting that RM 700 million is the estimated cost for river deepening works to increase the river’s capacity as a way of dealing with pollution issues.
He said in a statement today that the projects’ costs will be financed through debt obligations of RM54 million and possible funding from the Menteri Besar Selangor Inc (MBI), the state government’s major investment vehicle.
He also said that the project proposal was brought to the state government after the devastating floods in 2021. – The Vibes, March 1, 2023
